It looks as if http://sudden.recoil.org/ is well and truly down.
Jeffrey, did you get any response from your last email? The 'temporary outage' has now been going on for six months, and (judging by a Google search) the stuff in question doesn't seem to have moved anywhere.
I think it's time we instigated an archival effort.
RISCOSitory would be the obvious place, although if required I could make use of my own webspace (none of the zips are very big).
I've just been on the Wayback Machine and managed to get hold of recent copies of all the zipfiles located beneath /stronghelp/, except for three manuals uploaded after 2006: 'OS' (version 3.33), 'Wimp' (version 1.24) and 'Assembly' (version 3.04). The first two I found on my hard disc; the latter, unfortunately, I did not, so I'd be very grateful to anybody who could supply a copy of that one. (Doesn't appear to be currently hosted anywhere on the Internet - again, if Google is anything to go by.) I can email these zips to anyone willing to construct a simple index web page, to save the effort of typing in all the links manually again.
Anyone willing to give these files a home? If not, I'll stick them up on my website.
If necessary, we should probably do something about Parmesan as well. |

well and truly down. Not quite, as its still available from the 'Text_Editors' section on phawfaux That would be because phawfaux links to an archived copy on the Wayback Machine, which, by a staggering coincidence, happens to be where I acquired all those zipfiles from.
Of course, as mentioned above, they're not all available, and you need to type all the links (including to downloads) in the address bar yourself. Not exactly silver service, which is why I was hoping for a copy to be hosted in the present day. |

So apparently Chris got in contact personally, then. Undoubtedly a better solution than the web archive (and probably more reliable too). I'm glad this stuff's found a home. |

Enjoy. It's good that someone is hosting the StrongHelp manuals. But what about StrongHelp itself? |
